Hey there Corbett and Caleb!
Congratulation and thanks for the launch of the show, it’s something amazing and i’m looking forward to check out the next episodes.
Actually, I must say that you Spanish, Corbett, is rather good for what I have heard around here. I think a couple of months in Mexico would get you truly fluent. Awesome job at learning one of the most difficult languages.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks Alejandro!
We spend a few months in Mexico each year. I definitely get better with each trip, but then lose a little while we’re away. What I really need to do is kick it up a notch using Benny’s tips and some more formal learning.
Man, Benny hit the nail on the head. My wife is from Paraguay and came this year to the US with no English, and she’s struggling with English. Not because she doesn’t know it enough to get by, but because she’s a perfectionist and won’t speak unless she can do it perfectly.
I know she understands a lot because she laughs at the TV when you’re supposed to (that’s fairly recent). But she doesn’t speak.
Maybe I should pick her up Benny’s book to help loosen her up a bit.
Thanks guys!

And you’ll be glad to hear that the LHG was written in Spanish so she can read it in her native tongue

Best of luck to the two of you! I hope somehow she gets cured of that nasty perfectionism
Great show!
It’s interesting, I’ve always concidered myself a book learner (even with learning Spanish). And while that has helped tremendously with comprehension (I’m able to understand most of what is being said me), it has done very little to help me converse.
I often find myself knowing exactly what somebody says or asks me, but unable to speak more than a few words in response (even though I probably know enough words to say almost anything).
So 200 mistakes a day? I probably make 5. Time to get busy. Thanks for the inspiration!
Dude, Corbett, I just noticed your shirt – that’s rad!
Haha, yeah, I’ll be rocking that in Mexico this year.
Hey Corbett/Benny,
I really enjoyed this interview. I have learned 2 languages – German the traditional way with lessons and text-books and French self-taught more with books, films and exposure. I’m fluent in both but my French (non-conventional learning) is much better than my German. It also helps having a French wife
I’m quite keen to learn Spanish too so will definitely check out Benny’s site.
Thanks for sharing this – awesome!
take care & best wishes,
Alan
