At Expert Enough, we believe that we are all capable of much more than we think. As humans, we tend to underestimate the capacity we have to learn, to do great things and to be much more than we are.

Brilliance lies within each of us, but most people never scratch the surface of what they’re capable of.

Expert Enough is about upping your game. It’s about realizing there are few real differences between you and people who change the world.

At Expert Enough, we believe that expertise doesn’t come from a piece of paper. Expertise is something you earn, and it’s something that anyone can pursue. You don’t have to wait for permission, and you don’t need anyone else to grant you status.

Expertise is relative. There are world-class experts on any topic, but you don’t have to be the world’s greatest expert at something to make use of what you know and what you know how to do. Being expert enough is our goal – expert enough to accomplish our goals, no matter how modest or world-changing they are.

Expert Enough is here to inspire you to learn more, do more, be more.

Life is richest when we become good at a lot of different things. We think terms like “know-it-all,” “jill of all trades” and “renaissance man” are compliments.

If you agree, we’d love to consider you a regular reader.

We’ll be sharing tips, how-to articles, interviews with experts, case studies and more on all kinds of topics from psychology to technology, from food to fitness, from inspiration to perspiration.

I’ve been waiting for this for so long! Knowing you, Corbett, Expert Enough will become one of my daily reads :) . Can’t wait to get started!

    • corbett November 7, 2011 at 2:58 pm #

@jrcooper thanks so much! This is going to be fun.

    • jrcooper November 7, 2011 at 3:12 pm #

@corbett I’m curious; what are the main topics you will be addressing on this blog? I loved the blog’s tagline, but it could be extended to many different areas of life.

      • corbett November 7, 2011 at 4:56 pm #

Final topics are TBD, but we’ll be covering a lot. Think about it as lifehacker meets renaissance man. As we mentioned in the post: we’ll be sharing tips, how-to articles, interviews with experts, case studies and more on all kinds of topics from psychology to technology, from food to fitness, from inspiration to perspiration.

  3. Ciotti November 7, 2011 at 3:40 pm #

Hey Corbett, looking good so far.

Kind of a specific question, but why did you decide to go with LiveFyre for comments?

I was discussing this platform with Marcus (TheSalesLion) a bit ago, what do you see as the benefits?

    • corbett November 7, 2011 at 4:57 pm #

@Gregory Ciotti Hey Gregory, great question. I spent quite a bit of time with the Livefyre people at BlogWorld and was really impressed. We’re going to try it out here. If you have thoughts about it, we’d love to hear it.

      • Gregory Ciotti November 7, 2011 at 7:44 pm #

@Corbett Barr First impressions are that I like how it already includes the “follow up” for commenting, for instance I recieved an email to notify me that you responded.

Obviously done with “Subscribe To Comments”, but doesn’t have the tagging feature.

I’m not sure about the social integration, when it asks me to share down there, what am I sharing, the post or my comment?

What specifically did you talk about at BlogWorld that sold you on the platform over something like Disqus or IntenseDebate (or even good ol’ fashioned WP comments)?

  4. deaconbradley November 7, 2011 at 6:17 pm #

Love the design @Corbett Barr ! I’m also a big fan of the core-message of Expert Enough! I’ve got a lot to learn from y’all at ThinkTraffic and I’m thankful for the opportunity to watch you grow this new project. Very cool idea, keep it up!

    • Corbett Barr November 7, 2011 at 6:27 pm #

@deaconbradley thanks for the feedback Deacon! Glad you could stop by. I can’t wait to see how this evolves myself.

  8. Lucy Snell November 8, 2011 at 6:49 am #

Love the line which describes what your new blog is there to do – “Expert Enough is here to inspire you to learn more, do more, be more.”. I think everyone should be learning more, doing more and being more. I’m certainly trying to!

    • Dave Doolin November 8, 2011 at 10:25 am #

Lucy, I like that tag line a lot myself. Looking back, it’s sort of personal philosophy for my multiple careers.

  9. Tram Tran November 8, 2011 at 6:54 am #

Corbett, congratulation on the launch, I can’t wait to be your regular reader and help promote this blog too;). The design looks awesome and the first posts are really cool. I just RT them all;)
I can’t help sharing the good stuff. Come say hi on my blog sometimes;) it would mean heaps to me
    Keep rocking Corbett!

    • Corbett Barr November 8, 2011 at 8:50 am #

Hey Tram! Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for the feedback. I just checked out your site: good stuff! I love the idea of starting early.

  10. Tony Hernandez November 8, 2011 at 8:21 am #

Finally! This is what I’ve been looking for. When you say Renaissance Man, I say polymath. Same thing though.
I taught myself guitar (camp fire good or expert enough) and a third language; Portuguese. I call learning things “skill sets.” Swimming, drawing, a new language, programming, throwing a knife!, whatever, these are all skill sets. I like the shortcut question. Everyone wants 6-minutes abs but unfortunately, that’s not the case. There are better ways to do things, and my hope is that this site provides that.
When Tim Ferriss wrote 4HWW, he made a pilot for a show called, Trial By Fire. There was only one show but the premise was similar. How to get good at something and fast. So while this site will be providing tips on how to better oneself at certain skill sets, I also hope that you do not forget to tie it all together with the underlying themes: perseverance, studiousness, comfort zone breaking, etc.
My wish, would be for a site, program, whatever, to give folks a template to create their own “hacks” to be the best selves they can.
This site can be the beginning of just that. Excited is an understatement.

  11. Dave Doolin November 8, 2011 at 10:23 am #

    You’re unstoppable, Corbett!

I’m really glad you’re emphasizing personal expertise for achieving goals, rather than using it for specious “authority building” marketing purposes. Expertise *is* something earned.

  12. Sean Davis November 8, 2011 at 2:46 pm #

This is really exciting. Everything from the purpose of this blog to the design… picture freakin’ perfect. I’m thoroughly impressed and inspired to do more online. I only hope to do things as well as I’ve seen you do them, Corbett.

  13. Shannyn @FrugalBeautiful.com November 8, 2011 at 5:03 pm #

Love it! I’m totally on board for this- love the concept and I’ve already subscribed to the emails and via RSS.

  14. Sergio Felix November 8, 2011 at 5:23 pm #

Well you already had an amazing article on Running A Marathon which is one of my hobbies.

Now all you need is articles on Computing, Technology, Guitars, Music Composing, Music Creation, Web Design, Software Development, Home Studio Recording and… oh well, I better wait for the articles instead!

Good luck and looking forward for the next updates!

    Sergio

    • Corbett Barr November 11, 2011 at 10:23 am #

Thanks for all the ideas Sergio :)

  15. Enes November 9, 2011 at 12:23 am #

    Hello.
I just came along this blog thanks to zenhabits.

My first impression is that this all looks just great! I’m really impressed. You just got a subscriber. :) Hope will become expert enough.

    All the best. Peace.

    • Corbett Barr November 9, 2011 at 9:21 am #

Hi Enes! Thanks so much for stopping by. We’re glad you like the site. See you again soon!

  16. Rebecca November 10, 2011 at 6:36 am #

So excited about this! Sharing right now…

  17. Ramy Khuffash November 12, 2011 at 11:39 am #

I feel like this could end up being bigger than Think Traffic! Looking absolutely amazing!

  18. erica November 17, 2011 at 4:46 pm #

Happy to have found this site, also via Zen Habits tweet, exciting to see someone finally speaking to us non-experts who have a passion for learning, exploring and doing things good enough, because there are too many cool things out there to pick just one.

One thing I noticed is your use of Renaissance Man and jack-of-all-trades – there are women who geek exploring and learning skills and knowledge too, please don’t tune out and turn off people who could be your biggest fans and supporters through non-inclusive language.

    Lecture over. ;)

    • Corbett Barr November 17, 2011 at 4:54 pm #

Here here, Erica! I’m not a big fan of the overly male centric phrases, either.

How about this: we’ll use either “renaissance man and jill-of-all-trades” or “renaissance woman and jack-of-all-trades.” Deal?

      Thanks for stopping by!

      -Corbett
