A great piece that I can totally relate to! I moved to Copenhagen 9 years ago - think Amsterdam when it comes to bikes - and lived the first three years car free and biking everywhere. I then got a job farther away from home and thought I needed to get a car again. But what happened? I started cycling to the station and taking the train the last part. So the car was sold again and instead I'm the proud owner of three bikes. One 'sit up and beg' grandma bike with baskets to go to client meetings - yes I am the only sales person they have that turns up on a bike - I also have a road bike built for speed to get to the pool or just enjoy a tour in the city and finally I have a back up just in case the other two both get a flat at the same time! Decadent, but way cheaper in money and enviromental footprint than any car. How anyone could want to go to work in a nasty, stuffy car and sit in traffic for hours defeats me. The joy of riding past all those drivers stuck in traffic jams always makes me smile!
